EstRA celebrated MorePAL project and International Literacy Day

Estonian Reading Association celebrated International Literacy Day and MorePAL project with seminar and cultural event in Tartu on September 23th 2009

More than 100 people gathered to Tartu Vanemuine theater. Among them were EstRA members, participants of EstRA projects (MorePAL, Reading is Fun, Reading Nest, Schools Where Literacy Thrives, Reading Games), teachers, professors, students, parents.

Estra activities including MorePAL and other projects were presented.

After refreshments theater Vanemuine darama director Sven Karja presented new season and special events for teachers and students. EstRA member and author of drama followed te seminar Loone Ots told about the birth of the play.

The characters in the play being such as Lydia Koidula, Czar Aleksander II, Johann Voldemar Jannsen, Juhan Luiga, Johann Köhler, Carl Robert Jakobson, Friedrich Reinhold Kreutzwald and many other well-known Estonian people in the field of culture.
The debut play by Loone Ots was awarded the encouragement prize in the play-writing competition organised by the Estonian Drama Agency in 2005.

The seminar gave a ground for communication and discussion for future activities and planning between people active in education and literacy field. 

Together with the rich cultural information of the play it lightened the minds for creative solutions for closer co-opertation of schools and communities. The sharing continued on the long trip by busses from Tartu to Tallinn. 

All participants evaluated the event as most successful in professional, communication and emotional means and suggested it as a start of tradition to combine professional event with culural and emotional addition of drama play.
